Progress: 25%

Contractors involved: NERSC + members of IPUDC[1]

The first activities were to consolidate the workplan for WP7 and the IPUDC group and to provide input to the Consortium Agreement regarding IPR issues. The IPUDC group reviewed and made comments to Article 9 on IPR in the Consortium Agreement. The main activity has been to develop the first version of the Dissemination and Exploitation plan (D7.1.1). The plan is based on input from the WP-leaders and the task leaders. The document follows the general template for FP6 Plan for Use and Dissemination of Knowledge. It is not clear in all WPs what how to define the exploitable results, and dissemination plans are rather general at this stage. Exploitable results in DAMOCLES are defined in the following categories: (1) New instruments and platform for observing the Arctic environment; (2) New observational and model output data sets; (3) Models and data assimilation methods; (4) Improved access to and standardisation of data sets; (5) Systems or services that can be implemented for long term monitoring or forecasting; and (6) New scientific knowledge and capacity building in atmosphere-ice-ocean processes in the Arctic. The first version of the plan was provided by the end of May and an updated version is provided in December 2006. The IPUDC group is reviewing the updated version to ensure that IPR issues are addressed. Dissemination and promotion activities have started and the first set of promotion material from some of the partners has been prepared.

Contact with users and user organisation has started. Arctic monitoring and modelling systems in DAMOCLES and other related projects have been presented to several oil companies involved in Arctic offshore exploration. A main activity was to prepare and implement an Arctic GOOS planning meeting at NERSC in September. 25 participants from 17 institutions/organisations participated in the meeting and expressed interest to be partners in Arctic GOOS. Countries represented included Russia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, UK, Poland and France. Organisations such as EuroGOOS and WMO/WCRP were also represented. DAMOCLES in situ observing systems were presented by E. Fahrbach. The next step is to establish a MoU between the partners who want to be members of the Arctic GOOS regional alliance.
