WP4: Integration and data assimiliation in large-scale modelling and forecasting
This core theme aims to integrate observations and modelling by combining output from the observation-and process-oriented themes 1-3 (and IPY and non-DAMOCLES observations) with dedicated regional and global scale numerical modelling.

Arctic sea ice in IPCC climate scenarios in view of the 2007 record low sea ice event
In September 2007, the Arctic sea ice extent reached a new record low of 4 million km2, about 1 million km2 lower than the preceding record low in 2005. The 2007 event is unprecedented in observed history. Here we try to summarize the current state of the discussion regarding the causes of this event and to which extent a prediction of such extreme events by models can be expected. (Mar 25, 2008)

Results from the 2009 Sea Ice Outlook
DAMOCLES submitted four contributions to the 2009 Sea Ice Outlook. One of these forecasts turned out to be the closest of to the actual the ice extent in 2009. (Mar 4, 2008)
